might as well jot them down before school takes over my mind.

what i'll miss most about Taiwan...

+ late night motorscooter adventures in Taichung.
+ roller skating in the park
+ walking 4 blocks to Carrefour every couple days to buy groceries and other doodads
+ living adjacent to a McDonalds
+ random boba/noodle soup runs during all hours of the day
+ endless night markets and fighting our way through throngs of people
+ being referred to as the "little foreign girl"
+ how everything seemed so new and beautiful to me (well, minus the squat toilets)
+ getting my breakfast everyday at the Hi-Life convenience store next to the dorms
+ movie marathons during typhoon holidays
+ MSN-ing instead of working
+ wandering the museum galleries for hours on end without anyone bugging me
+ strangely enough, the walks home from work. i loved navigating through the city alone armed with my chinese-english pinyin map.
+ KTVs--the only time you'll ever hear me sing!!
+ mochi and basically all the food i had there
+ my uncle's seemingly endless supply of quips

+ going to Danshui watching people fish while picking up old 80s CDs from a street vendor

okay...so this blog didn't exactly work out as i had planned (that is..a daily blog of my adventures in Taiwan) due to weak internet connections and general laziness/tiredness from traveling. in any case, all the pictures that i had taken are posted on Facebook.

instead, as soon as i have my shop up and running, this will be a blog of random musings and inspirations (and who knows what else ;)

now, if only the jetlag would subside...

I'm currently running on about 3 hours of sleep in a span of 1.5 days as I sit here writing this post. The past day has been such a rush of emotions and nerves; I ended up staying up the entire night and hauled ass to the airport in a daze.

This was my first time EVER on a plane but the whole process was a lot smoother than I'd anticipated. Economy class on EVA Air ain't bad at all (though the food was 'eh') but the entertainment selection was AWESOME. I spent pretty much most of my 14 hr flight listening to music (loved the Elvis Costello and Wilco) and watching movies (some shockingly predictable Japanese drama and Penelope). My legs were pretty much like Jell-o when I got up, worst thing about Economy class? virtually no leg room :(. I did get an aisle seat in the middle aisle so at least I was able to stretch out my right leg.

A 7/11 truck just drove by under my window; there's also a McDonalds right around the corner where my grandparents live. Their apartment is currently undergoing renovations so I'm without a/c though the fan has been a huge relief. The humidity of Taiwan smacked me in the face the moment I stepped off the plane onto the boarding dock--the humidity is no joke here. Imagine the hottest day in Irvine steeped in a hazy moistness. My clothes were all but drenched when I arrived at the apartment (wearing shorts and a tank) and was met with the same sweaty mess right after I showered.

Luckily my grandparents live in a "quieter" part of Taipei so I can catch up on some much needed sleep but tomorrow I hope to visit the more urban parts :)
